Dr Imre Hunyor completed his medical degree with honours at the University of Sydney following a degree in Advanced Science. He was awarded a Rhodes Scholarship and completed his doctorate at the University of Oxford. His primary research was in the field of cardiac energetics, metabolism and heart failure under the supervision of Professor Stefan Neubauer. He was based in the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at the Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics. His subsequent specialty training in Cardiology and subspecialty training in Cardiac MRI, CT and Echocardiography was at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.
Dr Hunyor’s primary research interest includes the application of multimodal cardiac imaging to non-invasively interrogate the heart’s structure, function and biochemistry. His clinical interests include all aspects of general cardiology with an interest in arrhythmia, cardiomyopathy and valvular heart disease. His imaging expertise supports services in arrhythmia, congenital, genetic and structural heart disease, including minimally invasive interventions.
Dr Hunyor is a Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Sydney Medical School. He holds an appointment as a Staff Specialist Cardiologist at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and has Level III CMR Certification, Society for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance as well as being a Certified Established Provider in Cardiac MRI, RANZCR. As the Network Director of Physician Training/Director of Medical Education he oversees the training program for Basic Physician Trainees and is an Examiner for the RACP.
